Company History
Gill Bros. companies were founded in 1948 by James and John (Robert) Gill. The brothers, upon returning from World War II, formed a partnership that lasted until their retirement in 1991.
The Gill brothers were successful in every business venture they partnered, including plumbing, heating and cooling, propane gas, and furniture.
Their first furniture showroom opened in the brothers’ hometown of Albany, Indiana, in November 1966. The 6,000 square-foot showroom was located in a brand new facility on State Road 67.
The credibility earned from previous customers served the brothers well. Gill Bros. Furniture in Albany grew quickly in its first 34 years, and expanded in 1967, 1974, 1986, and 1994 to an operating facility of more than 26,000 square feet.
In 1991, the brothers sold their respective interests to their sons Richard (James’ son) and Steven (Robert’s son). With encouragement and mentoring from its founders, Gill Bros. Furniture, under the direction of cousins Richard and Steve Gill, has grown dramatically since 1991.
In the spring of 2000, the business relocated to its current state-of-the-art 45,000 square-foot facility on McGalliard Road in Muncie. Gill Bros. Furniture is now the largest furniture retailer in East Central Indiana.
January 2006 marked a new chapter in the company’s story with the opening of Gill Bros. Furniture in Anderson, Indiana. This second location offers over 27,000 square feet of beautiful display. Located at 1406 E. 53rd Street, the store sets a new standard for Home Furnishings in the Anderson/Madison County marketplace.
With the two most progressive and exciting furniture presentations in eastern Indiana, Steve and Richard Gill are poised to offer the best furniture buying experience to their customers. Steve’s sons, Ryan and Chris, carry on the family tradition of quality and excellence as well as Gill Bros. Furniture continues to serve you in the 21st century!
